KICK BALL WITH HEAD! I SPECIAL: WHERE ARE WE HEADED WITH HEADING?
Adam Peacock delves into the issue of heading in football. In early 2020, a number of associations in the UK banned children 12 and under from heading the football.
But does that solve the problem? Can it happen here? And if it does, will that spell the beginning of the end of heading being a part of football?
Those questions and more are asked and a number of solutions are offered by three guests who join Adam for the chat, starting with:
Dr Kerry Peek from the University of Sydney. An expert in head and neck injuries in sport (and the mother of youth footballers), Kerry fronts a study team looking into the ways prehab and prevention can be used to mitigate the issue of problems with heading the ball.
Dave Mitchell, former Socceroo, is helping Kerry with the study and given his expertise in heading the ball is preaching proper technique.
And Dean Heffernan, current Wanderers W League coach, who has also helped develop a ball that can be used safely to ensure proper technique used in learning to head the ball.
Enjoy!
